Donald Trump arrives in Washington to lay claim to White House

WASHINGTON: Donald Trump jetted into the US capital on Thursday on the eve of the most consequential moment of his life, his inauguration as the nation's 45th president and the setting of a four-year course of American political reform.

The Republican billionaire's arrival caps an extraordinary and improbable run for the White House that, once he takes the reins from President Barack Obama at noon Friday, will launch the United States into new and uncharted waters.

"The journey begins and I will be working and fighting very hard to make it a great journey for the American people," Trump, a political novice, real estate magnate and former reality television star, tweeted before leaving Trump Tower, his Manhattan home.

The 70-year-old leader-in-waiting traveled aboard an official government jet to a military base near the capital with his wife Melania.

They and several relatives headed into the city, where Trump began attending pre-inaugural festivities that have become traditions for presidents-elect.

"It is a momentous day before a historic day," said Vice President-elect Mike Pence, as Washington put its finishing touches on the downtown area where hundreds of thousands of Americans will congregate for Trump's inauguration.

Donald Trump adviser accused in lawsuits of hiring people to discriminate and attack African-Americans

An incoming White House adviser to Donald Trump runs a real-estate company that has allegedly hired white men to intimidate and physically attack African-Americans, according to multiple lawsuits.

Trump on Tuesday tapped Reed Cordish as assistant to the President for Intergovernmental and Technology Initiatives. Cordish is a partner at his family's Baltimore-based real estate business, Cordish Companies, and the founder of Entertainment Concepts Investors, a sister company that manages bars and restaurant across the country.

According to at least three lawsuits reviewed by the Daily News, employees at ECI have on Cordish's orders routinely discriminated against black guests at a shopping and entertainment center that the company owns in Kansas City, Missouri.

The so-called "Power and Light District" is a half-million square-foot mall complete with nightclubs, bars and shops. The location opened in 2007 after Cordish teamed up with Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, a fellow real-estate developer who will also join the President-elect's administration as a White House adviser.
