Norma reaches hurricane strength in Pacific near Mexico: NHC

Mexico City: Tropical Storm Norma surged to hurricane strength late Friday off Mexico`s Pacific coast which was pounded just hours earlier by Tropical Storm Max.

Norma looked likely to churn toward the Los Cabos resort area, according to the US National Hurricane Center in Miami.

At 0300 GMT, Norma was 270 miles (435 km) south of Cabo San Lucas, packing top sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kmh). It was expected to strengthen in coming days the NHC said.

Infosys board approves up to Rs 13,000 crore buyback offer; price fixed at Rs 1,150 per share

New Delhi: The country's second largest software services firm Infosys on Saturday said its board has approved a share buyback offer of up to Rs 13,000 crore.

The buyback price of Rs 1,150 per share is nearly 25 percent higher than Friday's closing of Rs 923.10 apiece.

Infosys had cash and cash equivalents worth over USD 3.5 billion on its books as of June 30, 2017.

The buyback offer size is 20.51 percent of the total paid-up equity capital and free reserves of the company as on June 30, 2017, Infosys said.

The buyback Committee also includes CFO MD Ranganath, Jayesh Sanghrajka (Deputy CFO), Inderpreet Sawhney (General Counsel) and A G S Manikantha (Company Secretary).

A number of tech companies have announced share buyback programmes this year to offer rich returns to shareholders.

While Infosys larger rival TCS offered Rs 16,000-crore mega buyback offer to shareholders, rivals like Cognizant, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Mindtree have also made similar announcements.

Govt would not blink if larger national interests are involved: Arun Jaitley

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said the government would not blink first against the opposition if there are larger national interests involved.

Addressing a GST Conclave here, he also said that the GST was not an easy tax reform to implement and there are people who wanted to stall reforms.

He also added that the days of bankers losing sleep over after borrowers willfully not repaying their loans running into thousands of crore are over, with the government bringing in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

Jaitley also promised that the GST Council would consider the representations made to him by the industry bodies.

Union commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was also present, said it was the first time in the country post implementation of GST, various industry bodies were assembled on one dais and appreciated the new tax regime.

She said all the decisions taken by the GST Council were on consensus basis.

Tamil Nadu finance minister D.Jayakumar said the single tax regime under GST would benefit the consumers.

Referring to the issues faced by the fireworks and textiles industries, he hoped that the GST Council would bring down the tax rates applicable for these sectors.

Earlier in the day, Jaitley met the industry bodies and also accepted their representations.

चीन की भारत को धमकी- पहाड़ हिलाना आसान है, हमारी सेना को हटाना नहीं

बीजिंग.सिक्किम के डोकलाम एरिया को लेकर जारी विवाद के बीच चीन ने भारत को एक बार फिर चेतावनी दी है। चीन की डिफेंस मिनिस्ट्री के स्पोक्सपर्सन और डिप्टी डायरेक्टर जनरल ऑफ इन्फॉर्मेशन ऑफिस कर्नल वू कियान ने सोमवार को कहा, "चीन डोकलाम में अपनी सेना बढ़ाएगा, हम हर कीमत में अपने क्षेत्र की रक्षा करेंगे।" कियान ने यह भी कहा, "देश की रक्षा करने को लेकर हमारे विश्वास को कोई भी डिगा नहीं सकता, पहाड़ को हिलाना आसान है, लेकिन चीन की सेना को हटा पाना मुश्किल।

क्या है डोकलाम विवाद?
- ये विवाद 16 जून को तब शुरू हुआ था, जब इंडियन ट्रूप्स ने डोकलाम में चीन के सैनिकों को सड़क बनाने से रोक दिया था। हालांकि चीन का कहना है कि वह अपने इलाके में सड़क बना रहा है। भारत ने 16 जुलाई को सख्त रुख अपनाते हुए कहा था कि वह इस इलाके में पीछे नहीं हट सकता। डोकलाम में चीन को सड़क बनाने नहीं दिया जाएगा। भारत ने चीन की इस वॉर्निंग को नजरअंदाज कर दिया है कि भारत अपने सैनिक वहां से तुरंत वापस बुला ले, नहीं तो स्थिति और बिगड़ सकती है। 
- इंडियन डिफेंस मिनिस्ट्री की तरफ से कहा गया है कि जब तक चीन के सैनिक सड़क निर्माण से पीछे नहीं हटते, भारतीय सैनिक नॉन काम्बैट मोड में डोकलाम में डटे रहेंगे। उधर, चीनी मीडिया ने कहा है कि भारत के साथ बातचीत की पूर्व शर्त भारतीय सैनिकों का डोकलाम से पीछे हटना है। इस मामले में मोलभाव के लिए कोई जगह नहीं है।

बॉर्डर पर दोनों देशों के सैनिक 100 मीटर पर आमने-सामने
- इंडियन आर्मी के जवानों ने चीनी सैनिकों के अड़ियल रवैये को देखते हुए सिक्किम के डोकलाम इलाके में 9 जुलाई से अपने तंबू गाड़ रखे हैं। बॉर्डर पर दोनों देशों की 60-70 सैनिकों की टुकड़ी 100 मीटर की दूरी पर आमने-सामने डटी हैं। दोनों ओर की सेनाएं भी यहां से 10-15 km की दूरी पर तैनात हैं।

भारत का क्या है तर्क?
- नई दिल्ली ने चीन को बताया है कि चीन के सड़क बनाने से इलाके की मौजूदा स्थिति में अहम बदलाव आएगा, भारत की सिक्युरिटी के लिए ये गंभीर चिंता का विषय है। रोड लिंक से चीन को भारत पर एक बड़ी मिलिट्री एडवान्टेज हासिल होगी। इससे नॉर्थइस्टर्न स्टेट्स को भारत से जोड़ने वाला कॉरिडोर चीन की जद में आ जाएगा।
- इस एरिया का भारत में नाम डोका ला है जबकि भूटान में इसे डोकलाम कहा जाता है। चीन दावा करता है कि ये उसके डोंगलांग रीजन का हिस्सा है। भारत-चीन का जम्मू-कश्मीर से लेकर अरुणाचल प्रदेश तक 3488 km लंबा बॉर्डर है। इसका 220 km हिस्सा सिक्किम में आता है।

Pathankot attack: NIA to produce arms seized before court

Mohali: The arms and ammunition recovered during the Pathankot terror attack on January 2 last year would be produced by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) before a special court here on the next date of hearing.

The NIA stated this during a hearing in the designated court here yesterday.

The arms would be produced as evidence for exhibit and identification by the witnesses, NIA senior public prosecutor told the court.

Security forces had recovered some arms and ammunition, including assault rifles, grenade launchers, mortars, bullets, from the Pathankot Airbase after the terror attack there.

Last year, terrorists had attacked the Pathankot air base, claiming the lives of seven security personnel while four terrorists were also killed.

Cases were initially registered by local police stations in Pathankot, but subsequently, these were transferred and handed over to the NIA, a central probe agency that was set up after the audacious 26/11 Mumbai terror strike to probe all terror cases in the country.

The NIA had filed a charge sheet in the Pathankot terror attack case in December last year.
